Present Simple vs Present Continuous
Se puoi aggiungere "now", "right now", "at the moment" → Present Continuous.
2Confronto affiancato
I play · She plays
- Abitudini e routine
- Verità generali
- Orari e programmi fissi
- Gusti e preferenze
I am playing · She is playing
- Azioni in corso adesso
- Situazioni temporanee
- Cambiamenti in atto
- Azioni future già programmate
Present Simple: I play, she plays → verbo semplice, +s alla 3ª persona.
Present Continuous: I am playing, she is playing → sempre BE + verbo-ing.
3Esempi affiancati
| Present Simple (abitudine) | Present Continuous (adesso) |
|---|---|
| I play football every Sunday. | I am playing football right now. |
| She reads a book before bed. | She is reading a book now. |
| We study English at school. | We are studying English. |
| They go to the cinema on Fridays. | They are going to the cinema tonight. |
| He usually gets up at 7. | He is getting up now. |
"Luca is playing the piano" = in questo momento sta suonando.
4Le parole spia
"I usually read a book." → usually → Present Simple → I read.
"I am reading a book now." → now → Present Continuous → I am reading.
Look! It is raining. (Guarda! Sta piovendo.)
Listen! She is singing. (Ascolta! Sta cantando.)
5I verbi stativi (state verbs)
think (pensare)
understand (capire)
believe (credere)
remember (ricordare)
love (amare)
hate (odiare)
want (volere)
need (avere bisogno)
hear (sentire)
smell (odorare)
taste (assaggiare)
feel (sentire)
own (possedere)
belong (appartenere)
cost (costare)
contain (contenere)
Questi verbi sono trappole tipiche. Ricorda: stati = Present Simple.
✗ I am knowing the answer.
✓ I know the answer.
Il verbo see (vedere) è stativo, ma look at (guardare) è di azione:
✓ I see a bird. (Vedo un uccello, senza volere.)
✓ I am looking at a bird.
|---|---|---|
| have | I have a dog. (Ho un cane, possesso) | I am having lunch. (Sto pranzando, azione) |
| think | I think it's great. (Penso che sia bello, opinione) | I am thinking about it. (Ci sto pensando, azione) |
| look | She looks tired. (Sembra stanca, apparenza) | She is looking at the sky. (Sta guardando il cielo, azione) |
| see | I see a car. (Vedo una macchina, percezione) | I am seeing the doctor tomorrow. (Vedrò il dottore, appuntamento) |
Chiediti: è uno stato o un'azione?
• Stato (possesso, opinione, apparenza) → Present Simple
• Azione (in corso, temporanea) → Present Continuous
I verbi stativi (know, want, like…) si usano solo al Present Simple.
Al Present Simple, con he/she/it il verbo prende la -s.
Al Present Continuous ci vuole sempre BE (am/is/are) + verbo-ing.
Solo have breakfast / lunch / dinner (azioni) usa il Continuous.
